How It Works

PhysiOA is built around a collaborative process that gives you clarity, confidence, and a clear plan - not just for now, but for the long-term.

Assessment

When you book an initial consultation, you’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire and an outcome measure, and to film yourself performing specific movements or everyday tasks that are relevant to your goals.

This enables:

  • A clear understanding of your symptoms, activity levels, and concerns in context

  • Identification of how your hip or knee is affecting your movement and daily life

  • Formation of a clear plan before your first session

All of this will be reviewed together during your initial consultation, using it as the foundation for goal setting, education, and strategy. These assessments are repeated at key points throughout your management plan to objectively track progress over time, not just rely on how things feel day-to-day.

Management

Based on your assessment, a personalised plan will be designed around your goals, lifestyle, and activity demands.

This may include:

  • Clear, evidence-based education about hip or knee osteoarthritis

  • A tailored exercise programme, delivered and supported through a dedicated app

  • Guidance around activity modification, load management, and lifestyle factors

  • Discussion around whether input from other members of the multidisciplinary team (such as GPs, consultants, or other professionals) may be helpful

Your plan is not static - it evolves as you do. The aim is to give you the knowledge, structure, and confidence to manage your condition effectively.

Progress

Progress isn’t just about doing more exercises. It’s about understanding what’s working and adapting when needed.

Follow-up sessions are used to:

  • Review symptoms, movement, and outcome measures

  • Answer questions and address any concerns

  • Progress or adapt your programme as your capacity changes

  • Revisit goals and long-term strategies

Between sessions, you will have ongoing access to your programme and the ability to ask questions, so you’re supported throughout your rehab, not just during appointments.

The focus is always on long-term independence, helping you stay active and confident in managing your hip or knee osteoarthritis over time.
